Pastor Matthew Diehl is a native of Staunton, Virginia and a graduate of Fort Defiance High School, Roanoke College, and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (now part of United Lutheran Seminary). Active in the church throughout his life, the seeds for a church vocation were planted in the relationships and experiences with the pastors and members of his home church, St. James Lutheran Church, during his childhood and youth. He accepted God's call to pursue ordained ministry in the Lutheran Church during college.

Ordained into the ministry of Word and Sacrament, Pastor Diehl has served congregations in Northeast Ohio and Lynchburg, Virginia prior to being called to Mount Calvary as Pastor in 2010.

Pastor Diehl and his wife, Heather, are the parents of four adult children-Joshua, Benjamin, Rebecca, and Leah. He and Heather live in Mt Jackson with their miniature dachshund, Golda, and their tuxedo cat, Mr. Bigby.

Pastor Diehl has dedicated his life to serving God through the Church. God's grace, unconditional love and forgiveness, and the Gospel (the good news of Jesus) bring light out of darkness, life from death, hope and courage amid despair and fear. As Jesus said, "Take courage, I have conquered the world!" (John 16:33b)
